Hotpoint Ovens

In the world of kitchen appliances the name Hotpoint is immediately recognized as one of the market leaders. Unlike many manufacturers which are famous for one product and make others just to complete their range, Hotpoint are known for excellence across the board. Their ovens come in a wide range of complexity and size and as they are priced from a very affordable £200 to just over £900 there is something for every home and pocket.

There are both gas and electric Hotpoint ovens available and this choice is across the price range. A welcome feature in the Hotpoint range is that the ovens are not all the same proportion, so that the owner of a fitted kitchen needing a replacement oven will be almost certain to find an oven to fit without having to do expensive alterations to the existing cabinets.

Ovens have come a long way since the days of three shelves and a door! They now have a range of functions and shopping around to find the oven that suits your type of cooking can sometimes seem daunting. The majority of Hotpoint ovens are A rated, an important point these days with rising fuel prices and environmental issues to consider.

We all remember our grannies scrubbing out the oven, but these days that kind of job is pretty much a thing of the past and the Hotpoint pyrolytic and catalytic panels mean that the oven never gets very dirty.

Pyrolytic Ovens

Pyrolytic cleaning is available on the more expensive ovens in the Hotpoint range. They work by raising the oven temperature to 500°C for around two hours which burns off all the grease and splatters from inside the oven. This then falls to the bottom as carbonised particles which you can sweep out. This sounds a little dangerous but in fact is quite safe because by selecting the cleaning program the door is automatically locked. It is not as hard on electricity as it sounds either; pyrolytic ovens are very well insulated and so it costs very little more than cooking for the same time. Hotpoint has seven ovens in the range which come with pyrolytic liners and include four double ovens. The Hotpoint OS 897D P IX HP is one such model and is priced at around £680.

Catalytic ovens

Catalytic panels in these ovens change the grease and spatters into something which is more easily wiped off. Because this happens as the food cooks there is no need to put the oven through a special programme, but you do have to be careful not to let any cleaner touch them, as it can make them ineffective. Hotpoint have 44 ovens in their range with this type of finish, in the medium price range, for example the Hotpoint BD32K2 at around £380.

Air cooled doors

Generally speaking by far the most dangerous appliance in a kitchen, especially for pets and children, is the oven and Hotpoint have gone a long way to minimising the problem with air-cooled doors on many of their ovens. This means that an accidental brush against the door will not cause a burn. These doors are most commonly found on double ovens, for example the Hotpoint DH53K at around £500.

Pizza Program

The pizza program is a fun option in many of the Hotpoint ovens on the market. It means that the heat comes from the bottom of the oven as well as the back and cooks from beneath for crisper crusts on pizza. This function also bakes great pastry and pies turn out with crisp, non-soggy bottoms. This function is only available in Hotpoint single ovens, but is well worth it if you bake a lot. The SE481012GX at just over £800 is at the top of the range, but cheaper ovens such as the Hotpoint Experience OS 897D C IX H at £300 also includes the function.

Automatic cooking programmes

Hotpoint ovens across the range include a variety of automatic functions, including bread-making and pastry. Many people these days like to make bread but automatic bread makers do not always deliver good results. With an oven such as the Hotpoint SQ661I it is much easier to produce crusts and loaf shapes to suit your family, not a machine.

With home cooking on the increase and everyone looking to feed the family healthy meals made from scratch, Hotpoint ovens have something for everyone.
